Dr. John Happel MD is a native of the Pittsburgh area and is the founder of the Happel Laser & Vein Centre. Dr. Happel completed his medical training at Hahnemann University Hospital in Philadelphia and subsequently finished his vascular surgery fellowship at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. In 1985 he was the only candidate chosen from the entire country to fulfill the requirements for the vascular fellowship at the world renowned Mayo Clinic. Dr. Happel has been in the practice of treating vascular disease since 1986. He is triply board certified in vascular surgery, general surgery and also vascular technology. Dr. Happel also served as the Chief of Surgery at UPMC South Side Hospital as well as the director of their wound healing program. In 1999, he limited his practice to the treatment of venous disease exclusively. Dr. Happel is a member of numerous county, state and national medical organizations and is trained in both minimally invasive as well as catheter based techniques.

Niki Happel RN manages the Centre and is a graduate of Duquesne University where she received her Bachelor of Science degree in nursing. She also worked alongside Dr. Happel in the operating room as his first assistant. She is the office manger and also acts as a liaison with both referring primary care offices and insurance companies. Her warmth, kindness and close personal attention is appreciated by all of our patients.
